Bindu Sunil is a Faculty Coach with Instructional Empowerment. Bindu specializes in implementing evidence-based core instruction to improve district-managed school turnaround schools. With a focus on equity and rigor, Bindu supports standards-based planning, effective instructional strategies, and formative assessments through professional learning communities and classroom support. Over the past 18 years, Bindu has used pedagogy and andragogy to empower principals, coaches, and teachers to implement curriculum, instruction, and assessment to improve student learning.

Before IE, Bindu served public schools in Georgia, Massachusetts, and Kentucky at the district and school levels. Although she started her teaching career as a middle school math and science teacher, she has extensive experience coaching and leading curriculum and instructional initiatives in K-8 grades. As a mathematics coordinator at Atlanta Public Schools, she supported developing and implementing quality curriculum and instruction. As a district math coach in Shelby County, KY, Bindu implemented student-centered coaching (Diane Sweeney), cognitive coaching (Thinking Collaborative), and math content coaching (Lucy West) with a focus on student thinking to enhance standards-based instruction aligned to equity and rigor to support schools through job-embedded professional learning.

Bindu holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering (B.E.) and a master’s in business administration (M.B.A.) from Pune University, India. Her journey into the education world began at Emory University with a MAT in middle grades math and science. In addition, she has an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Georgia State University.
